The Fergus Flippers is a recreational swim organization run entirely by volunteers to foster a love of swimming for youth (aged 6 - 19) in our local community. Eligible swimmers will participate in an hour long practice of lane swimming where they will learn the 4 different types of swim strokes, dives, turns and work to improve endurance and technique. We are a part of SWORSA which includes a team from Kincardine and a team in Woolwich with our racing season taking place in the months of May - July.
Registration for the Fall/Winter session opens up October 1st and generally runs from the middle of November to March Break. The team swims in hour long practices divided by age and skill level on Thursday evenings from 5 - 8pm. We also have a Spring/Summer session with registration opening up mid February - keep an eye on the website for information as it becomes available. This session usually starts the first Thursday after March Break and runs to the first weekend in July. During the months of May & June we are able to offer a second night of practices for those aged 10+.
In order to join the Fergus Flippers swimmers need to be aged 6+ and pass the swim test at the Sportsplex. This test includes treading water for 15 seconds in the deep end, swimming front crawl 15m, treading water for another 15 seconds and then swimming the remaining 10m. At no point may swimmers touch the wall or the bottom of the pool, and when treading water swimmers ears need to remain out of the water. Swimmers do not need to have specific racing experience to be eligible to join.
In order to register families will need to create a free Swimtopia account. If you have any additional questions or concerns please fill out the contact form below or email us directly at [email protected].
